The International Conference on Technology in Footwear Industry, CALZATECNIA, had its first issue in 1978, at León, Guanajuato, México. Ever since, the congress was devoted to disseminate new developments in machinery, lasts, materials and processes; also, new forms of production and quality management, innovative methods, market trends and fashion influences on the footwear industry. The knowledge was exchanged throughout a weekend filled with comprehensive programs of lectures by national and international experts.
With 35 editions, CALZATECNIA fully achieved its objective; a total of 507 lectures by 453 speakers from 130 organizations located in 25 countries were given. In the last edition alone 550+ delegates attended the conference.
During all these years our congress contributed to the development of the Mexican footwear industry, witnessing its development year after year. Before the first CALZATECNIA, the knowledge was accessible only to the very few who had the resources to travel to the places where the technological developments for the industry were coming from. Thanks to CALZATECNIA, new ideas were widespread by the authors themselves straight to the Mexican shoe manufacturers. For a long time, it was the reference of industry news.
As an effect of the progress of the regional footwear industry, other sources and venues for the dissemination of knowledge emerged, which were enhanced by the advancements in information and communication technologies. Therefore, the new vehicles of mass learning brought a number of challenges to the organization of the congress. It is for these reasons that in 2014 CALZATECNIA will pause temporarily to reimagine new and better ways for knowledge sharing.
The Organizing Committee wishes to thank all those who helped CALZATECNIA as sponsors, speakers or delegates. We look forward to seeing you soon at a new version of CALZATECNIA!
